Tatiana: Canas beats top-seeded Blake 4/7/2009 8:51:00 PM For The Associated Press HOUSTON (AP) - Guillermo Canas of Argentina, ranked 113th in the world, completed a sweep of the top two seeds in the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships Tuesday night with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over top-seeded James Blake. Earlier, Germany's Bjorn Phau, ranked 77th, beat second-seeded Mardy Fish of the United States 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. It marked the first time since 2000 that the top two seeds in the Clay Court Championships failed to advance past the first round. Canas, who had lost six straight first-round matches this year, used his clay-court experience to pull ahead of Blake in the first set. Canas, 119-80 in career clay-court matches, broke Blake in the fifth and seventh games of the first set. Canas led 5-4 in the 10th game of the final set when Blake made a determined bid, forcing Canas to four break points before Canas held and won at the first match point on a forehand passing shot. ``It's hard to gain confidence when you lose in the first round,'' Canas said. ``This year has been a tough start. I haven't played well for the past two months. Now, for me, I hope to continue on with the tournament.'' Blake dropped to 39-41 in career clay-court matches. ``At times I beat myself out there. I made too many errors,'' Blake said. ``He kind of forces you into that the way he plays defense. It's no excuse for some errors, especially the ones I made at key times. If you expect to win matches you have to put that around big points.''

Tatiana: CrazyCat да, этот Жил изрядно удивил своим упорством в матче с Надалем. сегодня он выиграл у Любичича 67(2) 75 64 в Касабланке. там же порадовал Хуанки победой над Стараче 64 76(1). а в Хьюстоне Вилли теперь играть с Дентом, это тоже не подарок. ждем инфу про Лопеса

Tatiana: Ferrero beats Andreev to reach Casablanca final 4/11/2009 1:47:00 PM CASABLANCA, Morocco (AP) -Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain beat top-seeded Igor Andreev of Russia 7-6 (9), 6-3 on Saturday to reach the final of the Grand Prix Hassan II tournament as he seeks his first title since 2003. Ferrero, unseeded at the clay-court event and chasing a 12th career title, plays fifth-seeded Florent Serra of France in the final. Ferrero's last tournament victory came at the Madrid Masters in October 2003, the same year he won his only Grand Slam at the French Open and lost the U.S. Open final to Andy Roddick. Serra advanced 6-4, 6-4 against Albert Montanes of Spain. He's looking for his third career title. The Frenchman last won in Adelaide, Australia, in January 2006. His only other title came in Bucharest in 2005. Andreev struggled with his serve against Ferrero and faced 10 break points. He saved seven of them, but the third break helped Ferrero take control of the second set. Meanwhile, Serra's gritty defense and a reliable second serve carried him through. ``I had some difficult moments in the second set when I saved break points,'' the 28-year-old Serra said. ``He had beaten me a month ago in Indian Wells, and I'm happy that I made it this time.'' Serra, who is 2-0 in finals, is not sure what to expect against Ferrero. ``I have beaten Ferrero twice, but I have never played him on clay,'' he said. ``I saw that he's very strong physically this week.''

What a difference a year makes. Corretja will be back in the saddle this year with the new, improved Murray, trying to share his expertise on clay, a surface where the very hot Murray is a little bit behind the curve of the top, top players. He'll also be doing tennis commentary Corretja, a fine clay-court player (and a very, very, very nice guy) who actually reached No. 2 in the world in Feb. 1999 and twice was a French Open finalist, is probably best known for being on the losing end of the Pete Sampras "upchuck-in-the-bushes" comeback win at the U.S. Open in 1996.
